Tom from Villa Fungi writes:

"My forager friend, Charles Lefevre, who lives in the Eugene, Oregon area has started harvesting the Oregon Black Truffle (Leucangium carthusianum) with his dogs Mocha and Dante. They will be available for two months weather depending (lack of rain will shorten the season).  As a reminder, Oregon truffles are shaving truffles ( best when sliced directly on to hot fatty food like pasta with cream sauce or macaroni and cheese ).

Aroma - The Oregon Black truffle has aromas reminiscent of fruit including pineapple, strawberry, chocolate, floral notes.

Storage -  Keep in the refrigerator in a plastic container wrapped loosely in a paper towel.  Open the lid once a day to allow CO2 to escape. Fresh truffles are best when used within a week.

Use: Use a microplane or truffle slicer.  These shaving truffles are best when sliced directly on to hot fatty food like pasta with cream sauce or macaroni and cheese.
