Large, Organic Veggie Box - TUES
Certified organic produce from The Farm at Sunnyside, which is just 75 miles from Washington DC. The large veggie bag is great for the person who eats most veggie-filled meals at home or the couple who cooks some meals at home!
The Large Veggie Box for Tuesday 9/29 will delight you with:
- 1 bunch parsley or dill - Parsley isn't just a pretty garnish! Blend up with olive oil and garlic and any other fresh herbs you have for a bright green sauce to drizzle on grilled veggies. Dill gives a boost of flavor to creamy dressings.
- 1 bag greens mix or 1 head lettuce - You know what to do with this one - top the greens with roasted FENNEL, fresh RADISHES or TURNIPS, and sliced APPLES.
- 1 cabbage or napa cabbage - Make a simple coleslaw with shredded raw cabbage, ONIONS, FENNEL, and APPLES. Toss with a creamy, DILL dressing.
- 1 fennel - Roasting brings out the sweetness in this anise-scented vegetable. Put on top of a salad or in a sandwich along with grilled sausage.
- 2 onions - These fresh onions are super sweet and are delicious raw and cooked!
- 1 delicata squash - A farmer favorite! As the name suggests, these winter squash have a delicate skin and don't need to be peeled. Scoop out the seeds and roast slices with olive oil, salt, and pepper.
- 1 bunch radishes or hakurei turnips - Radishes are back - we can hardly believe it! Crunchy and slightly peppery, roast with butter, honey, and chile flakes for a sweet and savory side. Hakurei turnips are mild and sweet and just as crunchy!
- 3-5 sweet and hot peppers - Purple, green, or red, these peppers are sweet and vegetal. Eat them raw as a vehicle for dip or roast them until soft. Hot peppers add a warm kick to your meal.
- 4-5 apples - With red skin and juicy flesh, these late summer apples have a sweet flavor with a slight tartness.

We love visiting Sunnyside and learning about cover crops, compost, field rotation, food safety processes, and working with a seasonal farm staff - Stacey and Casey excel at all these things!
