Little Austria is a bakery specializing in traditional Austrian strudel, made by owners Helene and Berni. When they came to the US from Austria, they looked for quality strudel but were unable to find it. So of course, they took matters into their own hands. Equipped with a mixer, an apple peeler, and a rolling pin, they started baking in a shared kitchen. After a year of not being able to keep up with demand, they needed to buy a whole bakery’s worth of equipment to keep rolling out the dough for their sought after strudels. We met Helene and Berni at Virginia farmers markets a few years ago and have been hooked on their strudels ever since.
