Field Report

From Stacey at The Farm at Sunnyside:

May 27, 2020

Things are looking GREAT on the farm. Despite the pandemic and 4 frosts or freezes in May, we are really on top of growing the veggies and keeping them maintained. This is in large part due to returning staff. We've got 4 returnees from last season and they've all stepped up to their second year roles. It makes a HUGE difference to have them back on the farm and already understanding what is going on - EVEN though it ALL changed this year!

The crew is rolling with the punches and adapting well to our new marketing plan. It involves a lot more counting to get the orders right and a lot more packing. Last year, we could just pick any number and send it to market. If our count was off, it didn't matter. Now, we've got to get it right, so the customer gets what they ordered and we don't have to waste a lot of time driving around the farm and redoing something we thought we'd already done. We've decided we all still have some room for improvement in the counting department! (i.e. We're still working out some kinks! Luckily, we've built in 3 different steps where we check the count before it gets to YOU.)
As far as crops rolling in - we have an abundance of peas + favas + greens right now. Radishes + turnips will be rolling out, back in the fall. We uncovered our summer squash yesterday and it already has little baby squash on it! This might be a result of stress - from those aforementioned freezes + frosts. But, we anticipate having squash in 2 weeks. Summer is just around the corner!
Team Morphia at The Farm at Sunnyside!
This awesome duo is returning for year two of farming!
...can you guess which photo is from 2019 and which one is 2020?!
